Opening a new Shopify store?

These are the must-have Shopify apps for a new store, in the order to install them. The free ones come first. Add paid apps when you have orders.

We choose the apps ourselves. Paid spots are always marked “Sponsored”.

What to install first

Start with your storefront and theme so people can browse. Add Shopify Inbox next so you can answer questions before someone buys.

When visitors show up, add reviews and email. Judge.me and Klaviyo both have free tiers to start.

Turn on Shopify Payments when you are ready to take cards. Skip extra paid apps until you have orders and know what is missing.

Questions

What apps do I need for a new Shopify store?

You need a live storefront, a theme, and a way to talk to shoppers. This hub lists those must-have Shopify apps in install order. Start with the free tier at the top.

Which must-have Shopify apps are free?

Online Store and Dawn are included or free. Shopify Inbox is free. Judge.me and Klaviyo both offer free plans you can use before you pay.

How much do Shopify apps cost when you start?

The first apps in this list cost nothing to install. Paid plans usually start when you outgrow free limits or need more features. Shopify Payments charges per sale, not a flat monthly fee.

Do I need paid Shopify apps on day one?

No. Install the free must-have apps first. Add reviews, email, and payments when you have traffic or your first orders, not before.
